Furnaces are a common heating system throughout Arlington, WA. That’s because you rely on your heating system for many, many months of the year here in the Pacific Northwest. Furnaces are generally viewed as a tried and true method of heating a home.

So that’s why when a furnace begins to struggle to perform, you’ll notice it almost immediately. From poor airflow to a furnace that blows cold air instead of hot, let’s go over some signs that your furnace needs some TLC. It’s essential that you call us for furnace repair at the first sign of trouble.  These complex machines have safety concerns as well, which is why it’s never wise to try and fix them on your own.

1. Inadequate Airflow

Your furnace is running, but your home is taking forever to get warm. What gives? Put your hand in front of one of the vents. The airflow should be strong and steady. If it’s not, the first thing to check is the air filter. If it’s dirty and clogged, this hinders your furnace’s ability to have a strong airflow output.

If that doesn’t fix the issue, it could be an issue with the blower fan. The blower fan’s job is to blow the heated air through your ductwork. If it’s not working, it’s not something that’s going to get better on its own. Give us a call. You don’t want to keep paying for your furnace to run if it can’t deliver the hot air to your home.

2. Cold Air Instead of Hot

Even worse than weak airflow is when the airflow is strong, but your furnace is blowing cold air instead of hot air! A furnace that’s blowing cold air could be caused by a number of issues such as an improper thermostat setting, a dirty air filter, a faulty fan limit switch, or something else entirely. Contact us to restore your furnace’s heating output.

3. Strange Noises

When your furnace is working properly, it’ll run fairly silently. Other than the sounds of start up and shut down, and the sound of air flowing through the vents, you really shouldn’t hear your furnace much at all.

That’s why sudden and strange noises can be quite concerning. Some noises that a furnace in distress will make include banging, knocking, screeching, booming, grating, scraping, and the sound of metal on metal.

If you own a gas furnace, a booming noise is particularly concerning because this means there’s an issue with the ignition process. Whatever loud sound your furnace is making, it’s best to call us to take a look at it sooner than later.

4. Thermostat Issues

Sometimes your home’s thermostat is unable to properly read the exact temperature of your home and will think that it’s cooler or hotter than your home actually is. If the thermostat thinks it’s a few degrees warmer than it actually is, then your thermostat won’t tell the furnace to turn on even when it’s colder.
